Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd of each year.
The UN Secretary General established Earth Day in 1971. The holiday is commemorated annually on the Vernal Equinox to mark the moment of the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and of autumn in the southern hemisphere.
The first Earth Day is noted for the eloquent statement declared by it's founder: "May there only be peaceful and cheerful Earth Days to come for our beautiful Spaceship Earth as it continues to spin and circle in frigid space with its warm and fragile cargo of animal life".
