International Museum Day is celebrated on May 18th of each year.
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established Museum Day in 1977 by. The celebration of this day provides for an opportunity of Museum professionals to meet the public and spread awareness of the challenges that Museums constantly face.
ICOM's motto is "Museums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples".
